Monthly conversation starters: September
We’re right there with you mourning the end of summer. Yes, there is so much to look forward to in the coming months, but that still doesn’t mean that we aren’t a little sad to see the long summer nights and beautiful weather coming to a close.
There is an upside to school starting again. It means that you can get back on a schedule and on that schedule we hope that you put down quality family time. What constitutes quality family time is going to be different for each family. For some it’s going to be Friday movie night, Monday city explore, or even something as simple as family dinners. It really doesn’t matter what you do as long as it’s a time for your family to be together; to share experiences and laugh together. Hopefully if your quality family time you’re taking the time to talk and communicate.
Before you go running to the hills over the dreaded “communication” word, just remember that it doesn’t have to be hard or difficult. You may learn just as much from a simple question as would would from hours of talking. Our monthly conversation starters are a mix of light hearted AND more thought provoking questions, but they’re presented in such a way that children kind of forget that they’re “communicating.” We’ve also left a few spots blank each month just in case there are questions you know need addressing.
Don’t forget to check out the skill of Effective Communication on our website. There you’ll find more information and ideas to make your communication effective.
You can use these cards over and over again as your children’s responses will change as they grow and experience new things.
