Round-Up Wednesday (September 30, 2015)

Yes, I know it’s a little mean to be posting about my recent holiday. But, the world is a beautiful place and I just can’t not share that beauty. My recent wanderings took me through Germany, and Belgium and they had me smitten.

GERMANY

I’ve been to Germany before, but this was the first time I was able to explore the beauty of the towns along the Rhine and they didn’t disappoint.

Rudesheim

Is one of the most famous of all the Rhine towns with impressive vineyards, castles, monuments, and trails.

Oppenheim Is an under-explored town that boast a beautiful cathedral (many of the stain glass work is original to the 1400s), wooded paths, and an underground cavern network.

St. Goar and St. Goarshausen

Each summer, different cities on the Rhine River put on these amazing fireworks displays called the Rhine in Flames and it’s AMAZING! One of the best fireworks displays I’ve ever seen in my life. My pictures don’t do it justice-sorry.

Belgium

Bruges

This city captured my heart completely. Maybe it was the fries. Maybe it was the waffles. Maybe it was because it was a perfectly charming city that’s invites you to stay awhile.

Ipers
I’m a huge history buff. So much so, that I almost majored in history in college. Ipers was on my history buff lists as it was one of the most signficant areas for WWI battles. In a place that was completely destroyed by the fighting I loved seeing how it has become something beautiful once again. The countryside still bears the marks of trenches and bombings, but now those are covered with grasses, trees, and farms.
