What is Smarter Parenting?

What is Smarter Parenting?

Smarter Parenting is a website that teaches parents and children ways to improve behavior. We provide this service for FREE because we are awesome and because we care. What you should know about Smarter Parenting is that we use the proven techniques of the Teaching-Family Model. The Teaching-Family Model teaches parents how to be better parents through skills. These are skills that help children learn how to respond respectfully, work through problems, cooperate and follow through with expectations. These skills are being used by professionals and parents throughout the world. We are planning to upload 15 distinct lessons, although currently we only have 3 on the website . We are working on new content and will roll it out when it is completed. Using the power of the internet we are providing these tools to you in the comfort of your own home. You’re welcome.

How does it work?

We have taken the Teaching Family Model skills and have presented them in a video format. Videos take 6-8 minutes to watch. A parent, just like you, explains the steps to the skill. Two examples of other parents using the skill are also shown to help demonstrate how the skill works in a real world situation. Below the video lessons there are additional resources to help parents teach each skill. We have found that sometimes using an activity or game helps children learn principles better than if a parent just explains them. These games are fairly simple. We have tried to make these activities simple enough that people can find the materials in their own homes. There are also additional articles and testimonials from other parents and children who have used the skills. You are invited to explore the website and find what works for you and your family.

Is this really FREE?

YES. This is free. Our sponsors believe that strengthening families is one of the best ways to improve the world we live in. It is through their generous support that we are able to provide this site for free.

Who can use Smarter Parenting?

Smarter Parenting is for anyone and everyone. If you are involved with children and youth Smarter Parenting may be helpful for you. These skills are being used not only by other parents but by aunts, uncles, grandparents, counselors, teachers, psychologists, etc. The skills found here are life skills that can help both you and your child for the rest of your lives.

What else are we working on?

These skills work so well with children and families that we are working on providing additional support for children who have a clinical or mental health diagnosis (i.e., Autism, Bipolar, ADHD, etc.). The skills are the same but there are some variations that may be more helpful for parents with children with these issues.

We are also working on creating support for parents. If you have a question or concern, we would like to be able to connect with you using the technology of the internet to address them. Want parent support? We want to provide that too and are working on it!

We also have additional surprise projects we are working on.

What should I do now?

Choose one of the parenting lessons and focus on it first. Practice using the skill and your child for at least a week. Check and measure you and your child’s progress. Contact us and let us know how it worked. Once you have mastered the first lesson, move on to another one. Take time to practice each lesson and you will see improvement in your child’s behavior and in your relationship. As the parent you should decide which lesson you need to work on first. Always choose the lesson that will be the easiest for your child to learn and adapt. When things are easier up front your child will notice the change and be willing to try things that are harder. We recommend you do not try lessons that are already a challenge for your child.

So, choose a lesson. Let us know what you are working on and how things are going. We look forward to hearing from you.
